Purpose
Theory of Relativity is my main online presence for my writing & I keep it as current as possible. I write about the progress of ongoing projects and anything else that forcibly seizes my attention or inspiration. These subjects will find their ways into my writing somewhere at some point, and I'll work them to death from multiple angles informally first. Some of that happens here.
I have a few goals with this journal: to keep frivolity & self-indulgence out of these posts. Not to get too personal or off-topic. To maintain consistent posting habits and hopefully, over the long-term, leave myself some evidence of my own creative & intellectual progress.
Personal
I'm registered band member of the Mohawk nation, Turtle clan, from Six Nations of the Grand River. My mother's full-blooded Mohawk; my father's French-Canadian (dekanăwīda #1).
Native American culture has always been a principal factor of my personal identity and frame of reference. Having been privileged without question in my education, dominant Western culture is also my own. When I was younger, I felt the duality as a split. Now I recognize in my experience the undeniable luxury of multiple cultural wealths.
I have a powerful reverence for the Creator and creation, which I study closely, devoting a lot of time & attention to the study of language, the brain and microbiology; I have particular interests in mathematics, the master language of creation, and its dialect genetics, the native language of life. I'm interested by separatist ideologies who insist on dividing science and God. The two are in no way mutually exclusive (dekanăwīda #2), but it is easy to understand the conviction that they are (scientific method requires evidence and reproducibility).
I will speak openly and unapologetically here about my own beliefs, but don't worry that I'll proselytize or try to convert you. That's not my job.
I write full time. I'm finishing my first novel, The Bible of Hell.
I also teach at a private university.

Highlights
I've decided it's better to avoid most public figures with a personal online presence, like a blog or facebook page or whatever. You're probably better off not knowing first-hand about their many personality disorders, which are certainly going to be displayed. I'm sometimes approached online by people who've read something I published and want me to be their friend somewhere, here or Myspace of Facebook. This presents various problems.
See, I'm a judgmental, perfectionistic grump. I'm sometimes something of an arrogant elitist, often simply a negative bitch. If you friend me and follow the journals and whatnot, you're likely to see this in flagrant display. It ain't pretty.
Know that I don't romaticize being an asshole. Often, I regret the fallout of this part of my natural personality, having alienated a number of people utterly inadvertantly by speaking my mind freely. I don't seek to offend -- I dislike doing it and usually try to make amends -- but I do it whether I think about it or not. Your mileage won't likely vary much. Caveat lector, then.
In my opinion, we're all better off sticking with the pubs. But for those of masochistic curiosity, I offer up this public journal.
Writing available for your immediate gratification:
Surface Properties of the Moon, short fiction, is up at Menda City Review.
In the Beginning, nonfiction, appears in print in the June 2007 Taj Mahal Review. Click for ordering information. (If you want to see my name in the list of authors, seek it under "Reflections".)
Featured Author piece at Identity Theory. More than you ever wanted to know about me and the guts of dead things.
Yellowstoned, nonfiction, at Identity Theory. This is an old piece.
Sensate, nonfiction. At Eclectica Magazine. Picture this.
Without Biting the Fruit of Knowledge, fiction. At Identity Theory.
This story also receives a bit of extra press here, which is always gratifying. By one of the fiction editors at Identity Theory. And while we're on the subject of Without Biting the Fruit of Knowledge,There's also a modest review here.
Earthquake Season, fiction at Storyglossia. Bad twin!* There's also an interview.
Crow, nonfiction. At Fringe Magazine. Poor little guy...
Turf, nonfiction published as fiction. Originally appeared at Flash Flooding. True story. Real couch.
* A quick, important note:
Because this story is written in the first person (using "I") and the main character has a sister who's a racist mental defective and whom she scorns greatly, a number of people -- even a couple who know me -- have recently made the erroneous interpretation that I am writing autobiographically about my own sister.
My real-life sister is one of my closest friends and has my greatest respect. She assists in open heart and brain surgeries all day for a living. At age 32, she's achieved just about the highest level of potential in her field and has achieved in full her professional objective. She sharpens my education regularly on the science in my writing. She's also a member of a racial minority herself, and intolerant of bigotry.
While we did live together in Pleasant Hill, California at one point, trust me: she's NOT the inspiration for Daphne. This is fiction, folks. It's a tissue of lies. My actual, highly brainy, greatly anal and nerd-like sister is a source of personal pride (since I share her clearly superior genetic profile).
She is, however, "Chicken" from Yellowstoned, which is nonfiction, after all.
Daphne did have some real-life inspiration, though. And we'll just leave that alone.
